BIKE Magazine Brake Test & MAGURA GUSTAV PRO

Germany’s leading MTB print magazine BIKE tested nine high-end disc brakes in both lab and real-world conditions—and the GUSTAV PRO delivers top-tier performance.
With ever more powerful motors, massive battery packs, and increasing suspension travel, modern e-mountain bikes are getting heavier by the day. This trend demands nothing less than uncompromising braking power from manufacturers.

The verdict: “Magura, SRAM, TRP and Hope are the top performers in this test, all delivering more than enough braking power,” says Max Fuchs, test editor at BIKE.

The MAGURA GUSTAV PRO achieved an excellent score of 1.8, ranking third overall—and notably, it’s the most affordable brake on the podium.

A key highlight: in lab testing, the GUSTAV PRO delivered outstanding results. Its high braking force reduces hand effort and brings even the heaviest bikes to a controlled stop with ease.

Braking force at 40, 60 and 80 N hand force (dry braking):
MAGURA GUSTAV PRO: 217 N | 414 N | 584 N
SRAM MAVEN B1: 238 N | 415 N | 560 N
TRP EVO PRO: 256 N | 422 N | 551 N

The full test is available in BIKE Magazine 05/2026. All bench test results were measured according to the DIN EN ISO 4210 standard.
