MAGURA
HISTORY

MORE THAN 130 YEARS MAGURA!

A journey through the history of MAGURA: from the gear rack for steering columns – still a symbol in the company’s logo today – to the manufacture of state-of-the-art components and high-tech plastics developed in-house. For decades now, MAGURA has been a reliable manufacturer for the bicycle industry.

"With courage and perfection to success!"

The quote by Gustav Magenwirth, founder of the technology-leading brake specialist MAGURA, is as relevant today as it was when the company was founded in 1893. As an independent family-owned company in its fourth generation, MAGURA takes its responsibility in business and society seriously and promotes new mobility trends with far-reaching know-how.

Gustav Magenwirth, born in Bad Urach in 1866, would probably greet this development with a proud smile. He was known as an inventor and thinker who was always far ahead of his time. In his early years, he showed himself to be as flexible as MAGURA is today.

The history of the company dates back to 1893, when MAGURA Gustav Magenwirth GmbH & Co. KG was founded as a repair workshop for agricultural equipment and machines. This was followed in 1923 by the invention of the straight pull control lever for motorbikes, which led to the partnership with BMW that continues to this day. The innovative rack of the lever still adorns the MAGURA logo today.
Along the way, MAGURA set many milestones for the bicycle industry, including the hydraulic rim brake (MAGURA Hydro-Stop) and the hydraulic disc brake Gustav M.

Family determined to pull together in the same direction

With Fabian Auch, great-grandson of the founder Gustav Magenwirth, the fourth family generation is now represented in the company. As an independent family business, MAGURA has been fulfilling its responsibility in the economy and society for 130 years now and promotes new mobility trends with far-reaching know-how.

“Technological innovations and the constant aim of achieving the best performance for the respective application have laid the foundation for us to be able to look back on 130 years of existence today. – This is a story full of speed, groundbreaking ideas and the urge to never give up,” says Fabian Auch, Managing Partner of the Magenwirth Technologies Group.
