Eurobike Award for MAGURA IBS (Integral Braking System)

Innovation for cargo bikes: Leading trade fair honours MAGURA product innovation with the prestigious EUROBIKE Award.

The EUROBIKE AWARD is presented by an independent jury of experts to recognise particularly innovative and high-quality products in the bicycle and ecomobility industry. Every year, the award brings pioneering new products to light and is thus regarded as an early indicator of trends and developments.

This year, a total of 300 products were submitted for the award. An independent jury of international experts from the bicycle, mobility and design industries selected the winners.

MAGURA IBS impresses with noticeably increased safety

MAGURA 2023 already attracted a lot of attention when it presented the study of an Integral Braking System (IBS) for cargo bikes. Winning the Eurobike Award 2024 now provides valuable confirmation of the innovation!

The series product of the MAGURA IBS, installed on a Ca Go FS cargo bike, completely convinced the jury.

Official Jury Statement:
„The MAGURA Integral Braking System (IBS) is an outstanding innovation designed to assist especially less experienced riders. By combining the use of front and rear brakes, it reduces braking distance by approximately forty percent. This system ensures smooth decelaration and stabilization of the bicycle, enhancing safety, particulary in hazard situations. For cargo bikes like the „Long John“, IBS prevents the front wheel from turning sideways even with light loads. Operating without the need for electrical power, this system offers a promising solution to enhance the safety of cargo bikes.“

“The innovative MAGURA IBS technology is another building block in our endeavour to drive mobility trends forward and make bicycles even safer. We have already proven this in the past with the introduction of hydraulic brakes on bicycles and the first eBIKE ABS brake components,” says Timo Müller, Head of Product Management at MAGURA.

The MAGURA IBS in detail

In detail, the IBS functions as a brake force distributor between the front and rear brakes of cargo bikes. The combined use of both brakes ensures better deceleration and stabilisation of the vehicle. Road tests show that combined braking with the MAGURA Integral Braking System results in up to 40 % shorter braking distances. The IBS is active every time the brakes are applied and thus offers permanent optimisation of driving dynamics. It works independently of other components without a power supply or sensors.

The advantages include:

Vehicle stabilisation
The combined braking of the front and rear wheels noticeably stabilises the vehicle, ensuring safe braking.

Shorter braking distance
Significantly shorter braking distance thanks to optimised brake force distribution – especially in critical unladen conditions. Up to 40% shorter braking distance compared to one-handed operation and therefore the same braking distance compared to very experienced professionals.

More even wear
The combined braking of the front and rear wheel prevents one-sided wear and thus extends the maintenance intervals (in particular pad and disc wear).

Potential one-handed operation
The IBS can be operated comfortably with one hand without any loss of safety. (Due to legal requirements, two redundant brake systems are nevertheless installed on the vehicle)

Market launch of the MAGURA IBS with Ca Go

Together with cargo bike specialist Ca Go, MAGURA is launching the IBS on the market this summer!
Ca Go has been setting new standards for the safety and handling of cargo bikes for years, making the brand the ideal partner for the launch of this innovation. The system will initially be used on the Ca Go FS model. The official presentation of the vehicle with IBS will take place at the Eurobike in Frankfurt. Hall 11.1, Stand C24.
MAGURA will continue to promote the IBS innovation in the coming months and is already in contact with other manufacturers.
